Getting started with Red Pen Tools 2.0

The same app runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

  1. Open a file from Files or the Finder, or drop it on the app.
  2. Pick a tool.
  3. Exports land in the Out folder. AAFs from Auto Cut-In and saved ALEs land in To Avid.

Where your folders are

  • iPhone and iPad: iCloud Drive > Red Pen Tools. When iCloud Drive is off, look in On My iPhone or On My iPad > Red Pen Tools.
  • Mac: the folders live inside the app. Use Share to copy a file somewhere else, or link a folder of your own.

You can link a Dropbox, LucidLink or shared folder.

AAF and Avid bin files are read on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

  • Vendor Assignment: shots by scene to vendors, per-vendor lists

  • Auto Cut-In: comps placed on the timeline as an AAF

The classic apps

VFX Shot List Maker, VFX Shot Puller and VFX Title Maker each carry one of the three original tools: Shot List, Shot Puller and Title Maker. They work the same way as the matching tools in Red Pen Tools.

The same support email covers them: ron@customtools.app
